Rudolfo –
I’ve grown ‘Dakota Tears’ for three years in a comparison against a few other varieties. The variety was among the larger-sized; only one hybrid called ‘Sedona’ was consistently huger. I don’t have any complaints about ‘Dakota Tears’. It’s as advertised. It doesn’t keep as long as red shallots, but pretty close.
Because it’s open pollinated, the seeds cost a bit less than hybrids, and it should be possible to save seed for planting, though I haven’t done so yet given it’s more convenient to order more from the Podolls.
